Raft FAQ's

When do I have to be there?  

Check in for the Dead River is 9:00 a.m.
Check in for the Kennebec River is 9:15 a.m.
You don't need to be earlier than that.

What time does it end?   Usually you are on your way home by 3:30 p.m.
What time is lunch?   Lunch is when you get back from rafting so you can eat under the pavilion in case of rain That is usually around 2:30 p.m.
What do you serve for lunch?   Steak, BBQ Chicken (sweet baby rays), Baked Beans, Salad,
Veggie (usually corn or green beans)
Veggie burger is available in place of steak/chicken upon request.
This is a gluten free lunch.
Is there lodging available?   We can provide and/or help you find lodging.
Are dogs allowed?   Not at our lodging because it is shared and insurance purposes but we can help you find lodging that is dog friendly.
Can I kennel my dog?   Yes there are kennels at fifteen Mile Lodge and Stream
207-663-2238. This is 3 miles from our base.
What size are the rapids?   Normal release one the Kennebec is Class III & IV rapids .
High release the rapids are Class III, IV, IV+.
Any Age/ weight restrictions?   Kennebec River - 10 years old (just a recommendation) You can decide as
the parent. They could fall out so they would need to not panic in that situation.

No upper age limit. Should be in good heart health.

Dead River - 14 years or older. Talk to owner if younger.

What if it rains?   We raft rain or shine. You can purchase trip insurance at the time of booking to be able to move trip before 48 hours of the trip. We will not cancel a trip! You can rent full wetsuits or splash jackets if you need them.
What is trip insurance?   Allows you to reschedule not get a refund and does not include lodging.
How much time to do I need to book in advance?   We usually can accommodate for up to two days prior. Sometime the day before but that is much more difficult. Sometimes we do fill up so I would not recommend waiting.
What do you need from me?   Name, address, tel phone number, email address, date you want to raft, how many people, do you want to rafting, do you need lodging or insurance.

What if I have medication I need?   You can bring that on the raft with you. Just talk to your guide and they can put it in the dry bag. Please remember to take it back with you.
What do I wear on the trip?   Please no cotton! It gets wet and stays cold. Always better to be more prepared than not. We sell water shoes in the store but a pair but sandals with a strap, old sneakers, and water shoes are appropriate. No flip flops and shoes need to be worn at all times on the trip.
You can wear a bathing suit, wool or fleece top, windbreaker etc. Wool gloves or hat for early and late season trips. We also sell croakies in the store for sunglasses so you wont loose them.
Where do I check in?   2981 Us Route 201 West Forks Maine. Please do not rely on GPS and use the directions below:
Directions:  Take interstate 95 to exit 133, Continue North on Route 201 (65 miles) through Skowhegan (be sure to stay north on 201 taking a left around the buildings), Solon and Bingham to the town of THE FORKS. You will go past the Marshall Inn on the right, then over the bridge in the center of town and then pass Berry’s General Store on the right. Continue for 200 yards and you'll see U.S. Rafting on the right. You can check in for lodging at 2 p.m..  If you get lost, you can call (207) 323-3052 for help. Check-in for Rafting Kennebec & Hiking Trips are Kennebec 9:30a.m., Dead River is 9:00 a.m.!

Can I take pictures?   We will be taking pictures along the river and you can view them and purchase them after the trip and even after you get home. You can bring a water proof camera and we do have some go pro mounts on our helmets ( please ask ahead of time).
When can I go rafting?   The season starts at the beginning of May through the first week of October.
When is the best time to raft?   If you are looking for more adventure there are specific High water releases on the Kennebec and a select number of releases on the Dead river. If you are looking for warmer water the best time would be July & August.
Do I have to be experienced?   We have brought plenty of newcomers and even those who don't swim rafting. There are normal releases on the Kennebec daily which is perfect for beginners.
